On Monday, the last coalition council meeting before the elections to the Saeima will take place. If the election results make it clear that the composition of the current coalition will change (for example, one or two ruling parties do not make it into the next Saeima), then the coalition council will no longer convene, and the government will become 'technical' - it will carry out its duties until a new government is approved. At the last coalition council meeting before the elections, the power partners will discuss and not support the draft amendments to the Constitution regarding the transition to nationwide presidential elections. According to rumors, the 'green farmers' will still submit this project to the Saeima so that the deputies can decide next Thursday, just two days before the elections, whether to refer this initiative to the relevant parliamentary committee. The ruling parties will also discuss the proposal from the National Alliance to introduce a specific quota for issuing residence permits to citizens of third countries. After the coalition council, there will be a meeting of the government committee, where the ruling parties will review the basic budget options for 2027 prepared by the Ministry of Finance. It should be noted that the budget for the next year and the main parameters for the budgets of 2028, 2029, and 2030 will be approved by the next Saeima.
