Klychko spoke about this in an interview with the Swiss publication 20 Minuten. During the conversation, the journalist recounted the words of Ukrainian soldiers who ask why ordinary people are fighting at the front while the children of politicians are abroad. In response, Klychko said: "Are you referring to my children? My children have never lived in Ukraine. They were born in America and studied in Europe or America." When the journalist noted that the question about the children of politicians still remains, Klychko pointed out that he himself lived abroad for a time but voluntarily returned to Ukraine. According to him, he did this because his roots are here. The Mayor of Kyiv also stated that he knows families whose children are fighting and families where this is not happening. Therefore, in his opinion, it is not worth generalizing such situations. Klychko mentioned that he visits the front every month. Vitaliy Klychko has three adult children: sons Yegor and Maksym and daughter Yelyzaveta. His youngest son Maksym is a basketball player for the Ukrainian national team. He transferred to the University of East Carolina, which competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), reports the UNIAN news agency.
