The Road Transport Directorate (ATD) informed the LETA agency that the issue of tariff changes is closely linked to the question of financing the public transport network in 2027 and the volume of orders. The directorate indicated that with various scenarios, the ATD will appeal to the Public Transport Council, which will have to make the final decision. If tariff changes occur, they will affect both buses and trains, as the tariff is unified for both types of public transport. According to the information report from the Ministry of Transport, if there is no possibility to increase the funding volume in the budget base to introduce annual indexing in regional transport contracts, compensatory measures must be provided to cover it. Compensatory measures may include optimizing the route network, changing the tariff policy, and introducing additional payments for beneficiaries of benefits.
