On election day for the 15th Saeima, the State Security Service is operating in an enhanced mode, checking information about possible attempts to illegally influence the voting results. According to the SSS, during the pre-election period and until 9:00 AM on election day, the service received 13 reports of possible violations. These include alleged bribery of voters and other attempts to illegally influence their will. Some reports have already been checked, but in none of the completed cases have illegal actions been confirmed. The verification of the remaining signals is ongoing. At the same time, the SSS stated that it has not identified any direct attempts by Russia or other foreign states to illegally interfere in the conduct of the elections or influence their results. However, the service continues to assess individual cases of misinformation related to the elections and several political parties, as well as checking for possible connections between these materials and Russia. The service reminds that signs of possible bribery may include organized transportation of voters to polling places, the appearance of large groups of people simultaneously, prolonged presence of suspicious individuals near voting locations, as well as requests to present a ballot with a specific number or to photograph it as confirmation. Additionally, the SSS urges reporting any possible attempts of illegal influence on voters, violations of voting secrecy, intentional miscounting of votes, as well as the dissemination of deepfakes that may be used to discredit political parties or candidates. If such information is available, the service recommends documenting the circumstances of the incident, if possible, with photo, video, or audio recordings, as well as preserving information that may help identify possible participants. The verification of all incoming reports continues. As they are reviewed, the SSS promises to assess whether they contain signs of violations of the law.
