Former Prime Minister and one of the leaders of “New Unity” Evika Siliņa admitted that the party could have shown a higher result in the elections for the 15th Saeima if it had not joined the government of Andris Kulbergs in the spring. She stated this during the broadcast of the program “900 seconds” on the TV3 channel, commenting on the results of the parliamentary elections. According to Siliņa, refusing to participate in the government would have put the “United List” in a difficult position — either to form a minority government or to seek support from the party “Latvia First.” > “I don’t know what the result of the 'United List' would be now,” the politician noted. In response to the question of how the representatives of “New Unity” themselves could have performed in that case, Siliņa acknowledged that the party would likely have received more votes. She emphasized that “New Unity” is not satisfied with the election results and intends to analyze the reasons for such an outcome. Despite this, Siliņa congratulated Andris Kulbergs and the “United List” on their victory in the elections and expressed readiness to participate in negotiations on forming a new government. In her opinion, the current political situation provides an opportunity to create a coalition that can focus more on implementing the set tasks rather than on constant internal negotiations. At the same time, the final decision on the composition of the future government, Siliņa emphasized, remains with the victorious “United List.” She added that “New Unity” is ready for any developments — both for participation in a new ruling coalition and for working in opposition. According to preliminary election results, “New Unity” received 6.36% of the votes and became the sixth political force to pass into the 15th Saeima.
