According to the LETA agency, this week the construction authority of the Jekabpils region inspected the administrative building that housed a station of the State Police. The inspection results were alarming. Cracks were found in the wall and ceiling finishes throughout almost the entire building. In several places, the plaster has already peeled off and collapsed, and in certain areas, there remains a risk of further deterioration of the finishing materials. Experts concluded that the building does not meet the safety operation requirements established by the Construction Law. As a result, the construction authority prohibited its use until the identified threats are eliminated. Karlis Stars, the deputy chairman of the Jekabpils region council for development, stated that the municipality is ready to provide the police with alternative premises at 126 Brivibas Street. This week, representatives of the local authorities already met with the leadership of the State Security Agency and the State Police to discuss possible options for accommodating the staff. "During the meeting, the municipality showed available premises at 126 Brivibas Street. The possibility of providing the police with more spacious premises in the near future was also discussed," Stars said. The dangerous building on Brivibas Street has been completely vacated and is under guard. Specialized professionals have been engaged to assess its technical condition. They will determine whether it is possible to restore safe operation of the premises and whether the police can return to their previous workplace.
