You will need just three things: baking soda, hot water, and aluminum foil. ### How to prepare the solution Take a deep glass or ceramic container and line the bottom with aluminum foil. It is important that the metal utensils come into direct contact with the foil. For one liter of hot water, add two tablespoons of baking soda. The water should be very hot, so be cautious when handling it. Place the spoons, forks, and knives in the container and pour the solution over them so that they are completely submerged. Leave them for about 5–10 minutes. Do not pile the utensils tightly together. It is preferable to arrange them so that each item has contact with the aluminum foil — this is a crucial part of the process. ### What to do after soaking After 10 minutes, remove the utensils, rinse them thoroughly with clean water, and wipe them with a soft dry cloth. This last step is especially important: if you let the surface dry on its own, new water spots may appear. If some areas still look dull after the first procedure, you can repeat the soaking. It is better not to use harsh sponges and abrasive cleaners that can leave scratches on the surface. ### Which utensils this method is not suitable for Before using this homemade solution, make sure of the material the utensils are made of. Do not apply this method to items with decorative coatings, inlays, glued elements, or unknown metal compositions without prior checking. If it concerns expensive, antique, or special cutlery, it is safer to first check the manufacturer's care recommendations. In other cases, this method can be a simple option for removing regular tarnish and restoring a fresher and shinier appearance to the cutlery.
