The only copy of the book was created between 1958 and 1961. It is based on the Revelation of John, the text of which was handwritten in calligraphic script using gilded letters. Several famous 20th-century artists worked on the design of the edition. Among them are Salvador Dalí, Georges Mathieu, Bernard Buffet, Léonor Fini, Tsuguharu Fujita, Pierre-Yves Tremois, and Ossip Zadkine. Each of them prepared three illustrations for the book. The massive bronze cover created by Salvador Dalí is of particular value. It is adorned with gold and precious stones and weighs about 150 kilograms. The book itself consists of 150 parchment sheets made from sheep skins in the French workshop Bodin-Joyeux. In the early 1960s, the unique edition was displayed at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris. At that time, its value was estimated at 100 million old French francs. The current owner of the rarity, collector Christian Karoutsos, purchased the book in 2003 at an auction in Japan, after which he exhibited it in the art center he founded in Issoudun. Today, experts estimate the value of "The Apocalypse of Joseph Foré" at more than 1 million euros.
