The project provides for the organization of a full production cycle and supply for the needs of the National Armed Forces of Latvia. A significant portion of the products is planned to be exported. It is expected that the establishment of the enterprise will significantly enhance the resilience and security of supply chains. The new plant will not only produce anti-tank mines but also carry out the equipping of combat parts. The implementation of the project is also expected to provide substantial support to the Latvian industry and ensure reliable access to suppliers of critically important raw materials and equipment. "The establishment of the plant will be an important step in strengthening Latvia's defense capabilities and national production capacities. It will help ensure timely and safe supplies for the needs of the National Armed Forces while simultaneously reducing dependence on external suppliers," said Defense Minister Raivis Melniks. The government's decision is a practical continuation of the memorandum of understanding signed in February of this year, which provides for the establishment of a specialized enterprise in Latvia for the production of anti-tank mines and their components. As previously reported by LETA, the memorandum was signed by the Latvian LLC Valsts aizsardzības korporācija ("State Defense Corporation") and one of the leading German defense industry companies — Dynamit Nobel Defence (DND). It is expected that the new enterprise will begin operations in 2028. However, the exact location of the plant's construction has not yet been disclosed.
