On Tuesday, October 13, the Cabinet of Ministers approved regulations that provide for an increase in the basic salaries of military personnel starting in 2027. Additional funding is planned to be secured through the redistribution of internal resources within the defense sector. Currently, the minimum monthly salary for a serviceman is 835 euros before taxes. According to preliminary calculations by the Ministry of Defense, starting in 2027, the basic salary of military personnel will increase by an average of 190 euros, and from 2028, by an additional 147 euros per month before taxes. At the same time, the actual amount of the increase will depend on the military rank and years of service, so it may vary for each serviceman. The aim of the changes is to enhance the motivation of the personnel of the National Armed Forces (NAF), strengthen the competitiveness of military service in the labor market, and ensure decent compensation for professional servicemen in light of the current economic situation. According to the strategic vision outlined in the document, the monthly salary of a soldier should be 35% higher than the established minimum wage in the country, while the salary of an officer should be 20–30% higher than that of a soldier.
