Technical malfunctions occurred at Riga Airport, causing delays in the screening of checked baggage for departing passengers. The issue led to queues and affected the schedule of certain flights, reported the LETA agency. Ilze Salna, head of the airport's communication projects, explained that the baggage screening equipment is currently operating at limited capacity. Therefore, passengers should consider that check-in and baggage drop-off may take significantly longer than usual. ## Some Flights Delayed to Wait for Passengers According to the airport representative, airlines informed passengers in the morning about the need to arrive for check-in in advance. However, the technical problems still impacted the departure of planes. Several flights took off later than scheduled as airlines decided to wait for passengers and their baggage. In some cases, carriers altered passenger flight routes so they could continue with their planned trips. The exact number of affected flights and the duration of delays have not yet been specified. ## Passengers Report Long Queues According to travelers' posts on social media, queues at the airport began forming about four hours before the situation was reported. Passengers stated that at one point the queue extended all the way to the Fast Track security area. The technical failure specifically concerns the screening of checked baggage that passengers drop off before departure. ## Are There Suspicions of Malicious Interference? Ilze Salna emphasized that at this time the airport has no grounds to suspect malicious actions. Technical specialists are working to resolve the issues. It is currently unknown when baggage screening will fully return to normal operations. The airport recommends that passengers plan their arrival time in advance, consider possible queues, and check airline updates.
