The Jewish community of Riga and the museum "Jews in Latvia" are collecting materials for a new exhibition dedicated to three renowned chess players — Aron Nimzowitsch, Alexander Koblenz, and Mikhail Tal. Representatives of the museum informed the LETA agency about this. The exhibition is timed to coincide with anniversary dates: in 2026, it will be 140 years since Nimzowitsch's birth, 110 years since Koblenz's birth, and 90 years since Tal's birth. The exhibition will not only tell about these outstanding individuals but also about the contribution of the Jewish community to the development of chess in Latvia. ## What materials the museum is looking for The organizers urge residents to check their personal and family archives. The following may be of interest for the future exhibition: - old photographs related to Nimzowitsch, Koblenz, or Tal; - documents, letters, and other archival evidence; - awards and memorabilia; - any other materials related to the lives and activities of the chess players. The museum emphasizes that all items and documents provided for the exhibition will be returned to their owners. The organizers hope that with the help of residents, they will be able to enrich the known history of Latvian chess with personal testimonies and materials that have been kept in private collections until now.
