"France is burning! Immigration of people from a completely different world, people with hatred in their hearts, has destroyed this once-great country. Close your borders and take control of everything before it is too late!" — Trump wrote. The American president has repeatedly criticized European countries for their immigration policies. On October 2, he stated that Europe is being "eaten alive." In July 2025, Trump called illegal immigration a "horrific invasion" that is "killing Europe" and warned European leaders that without a change in course, they could lose Europe. In February 2025, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance also criticized European policy at the Munich Security Conference. According to him, the main threat to Europe does not come from Russia or China, but from within — due to a rejection of "fundamental values." Vance reminded about the car attack on protesters in Munich on February 13, which resulted in over 20 injuries. The driver was a 24-year-old immigrant from Afghanistan. "No voter on this continent went to the polls to open the floodgates for millions of unvetted immigrants," Vance emphasized at that time. Mass protests in France began three weeks ago with demonstrations by students dissatisfied with the lack of teachers and the poor condition of educational institutions. Subsequently, citizens joined in, outraged by rising prices for gasoline, utilities, and food. According to the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs, approximately 550,000 people participated in the protests on October 17, while unions estimated the number of demonstrators at 800,000. Clashes with police, arson, and looting occurred in Paris, Lyon, Marseille, and other cities. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez reported that around 1,800 people were arrested during the protests and riots. More than 500 police officers, gendarmes, and firefighters were injured. The damage to French businesses is estimated in the hundreds of millions of euros. French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the violence and stated that those involved in the riots and attacks on government institutions and stores will be held accountable, writes The Moscow Times.
