A man met a girl named Jessica on the internet, who allegedly lived alone on a farm in the state of Minas Gerais. She invited him to her place and promised that he would "live like a king." Believing the promises, the Brazilian sold his belongings and set off. After a 36-hour bus journey, he arrived in the city of Belo Horizonte, not knowing the exact address of his beloved. Martins showed locals photos of the girl, hoping to find her, and then sought help from a radio station. Journalists explained to the man that Jessica does not exist in reality, and her images and videos were created using neural networks. The anonymous creator of the account claims he did not communicate with Martins personally. According to him, the Brazilian saw the published video and perceived it as an invitation. The profile was created to attract followers and promote products. According to Rádio Itatiaia, two other men had previously come to Belo Horizonte in search of virtual girls. Martins, left without funds for the return trip, had his ticket paid for by the city authorities.
