Blum incorrectly filled out the official form, marking the box next to the item regarding the renunciation of his parliamentary mandate, and then sent the document by mail to the municipal election leader. The administration of Cloppenburg confirmed to Nordwest-Zeitung that the politician "renounced his mandate in the written statement submitted within the prescribed time." This decision cannot be revoked. If Blum had not filled out and sent the form, his election would have been considered accepted. In the election, he received 540 votes and was directly elected to the city council. According to the politician, he was looking forward to starting work in the new council. "I really wanted to get into the city council. Until Tuesday, it was not clear to me that I would not be part of the next city council. I felt really bad when I found out about it," Blum said. He could not explain his mistake and added: "I am terribly angry."
