The program is organized by the state Child Protection Center (BAC) in collaboration with the Latvian Child Support Fund and the Resilience center. It is aimed at children aged 7 to 17 inclusive, who are already experiencing behavioral problems or addictions, or have shown early signs of concern. There is no need to wait until the child completely drops out of school or comes to the attention of the police. The purpose of the program is to help the family before the situation becomes truly severe. Moreover, the assistance promised is not one-size-fits-all. First, specialists will assess what is happening with the child, identify the reasons for the difficulties, and determine what support is specifically needed for him and his family. Depending on the situation, this may include individual consultations with psychologists and other specialists, group activities, and in more complex cases, intensive assistance in a specially organized safe environment. The program is implemented with the support of the European Social Fund Plus. The current cohort includes six municipalities: Riga, Daugavpils, Ventspils, Bauska, Ropaži, and Valmiera regions. ## ## What about families from other cities? It turns out this is not the only opportunity to receive help. The Child Protection Center is implementing a broader project to support children with behavioral difficulties and addictions, which includes other services. For example, from June 2026 to May 2027, thematic support groups for children, teenagers, and parents will be organized. In-person sessions are planned in Riga, Daugavpils, Liepāja, Jelgava, Jūrmala, Jekabpils, Līvāni, Limbaži, and Ropaži. Online sessions are also possible. There are groups specifically for parents who find it difficult to manage their child's behavior. The sessions address the causes of conflicts, communication methods, and solutions to family problems. Additionally, a free anonymous consultation hotline operates on Mondays from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. You can call 80006008 or write to a specialist through the website drosmigssarunai.lv. Questions are answered by psychologists, psychotherapists, and other specialists working with children and teenagers. As for the current program, applications are accepted until October 25. The Child Protection Center lists the six participating municipalities but does not explicitly state whether families from other areas are prohibited from applying. Therefore, residents of other cities are advised to clarify participation possibilities with the organizers in advance. ## How to apply? To do this, you need to fill out an electronic application form. There are two separate options: one for parents and legal guardians of the child, and the other for teenagers aged 14 and older who wish to apply independently. The information provided is promised to be kept confidential. After completing the application, a program coordinator will contact the applicant to discuss the situation and next steps. Applications must be submitted no later than October 25, 2026. If there are questions, you can contact the Latvian Child Support Fund directly at 23112112 or via email at info@lbaf.lv. Residents of Daugavpils can also call the city Social Service at 65440911 or write to rimma.vavilova@socd.lv.
