Amina Berdova, cosmetologist Why Eye Problems Occur Eye problems can indicate more serious conditions, such as kidney or liver diseases, which may be related to poor nutrition, illnesses, or even genetic factors. Dark Circles Under the Eyes Dark circles can occur due to thin skin through which the circular muscle of the eye shows, as well as due to pigmentation against the background of venous stasis. “Bags” Under the Eyes They can be caused by hernias, not just swelling. In such cases, massage will not help eliminate dark circles and hernias but can serve as good prevention. What Massages Can Be Done Independently The procedure that promotes lymphatic drainage is part of techniques such as classic lymphatic drainage facial massage, Japanese Asahi massage, spoon massage, and circular facial massage. Lymphatic Drainage Eyelid Massage The massage should be performed on clean skin, so before starting the procedure, cleanse the area around the eyes with milk or micellar water, and then apply cream or serum. Since this area is sensitive, use only special products for the eye area. Be prepared to reapply the cream or gel as it dries to avoid stretching the skin. Massage Technique - With the pads of your index and middle fingers of both hands, make several circular movements (8–10) from the outer corner of the eye to the temple area. - Next, using circular motions and applying slight pressure, move along the lower orbit of the eye from the temple to the nose, and along the upper orbit in the opposite direction. Repeat these movements at least 3 times. - Place your fingers on the lower eyelid and gently press on the eyelid for a few seconds. Do the same on the upper eyelid, closing your eyes beforehand. - Then perform tapping movements from the temple to the nose along the lower orbit and from the nose to the temple along the upper orbit. - Rolling movements: place your middle finger on the ridge between the outer corner of the eye and the temple area, apply slight pressure, and roll it along the orbit down to the nose, and up from the bridge of the nose to the temple. Repeat at least 5 times for each area. - After that, move to circular movements around the eyes using your index and middle fingers: along the lower orbit from the temple to the nose, capturing the cheekbones, and along the upper orbit from the bridge of the nose to the temple. - Finish the massage with tapping movements in the same directions. After the massage, wash your face with water, preferably contrasting, alternating between cold and warm water, placing your fingers on your eyes for a few seconds. Spoon Massage This technique is performed along the massage lines described earlier but using spoons (dessert, table, or tea spoons). Technique - Slightly warmed spoons, coated with cream, should be applied to the base of the eyebrows and moved from the bridge of the nose above the eyebrows to the temple area. Repeat several times. - To get rid of morning puffiness and dark circles, you can apply cooled spoons to the lower eyelids. What Else Can Be Used Gel patches work great for dark circles and puffiness under the eyes. Before use, keep them in the refrigerator, as the effect depends on the temperature difference.
