According to the publication, the United States not only supported the former Prime Minister of Hungary in his decision to participate in the race but even suggested the idea to him. One of the officials from the State Department during the Trump administration admits that at first glance this sounds crazy. However, judging by preliminary negotiations with Washington, Russia and China are believed to support this idea, and the plan is for Orban to become their joint candidate. As U.S. officials from another country reported, when the U.S., Russia, and China aim for the same goal in the UN Security Council, they usually achieve it. A State Department representative counted eight votes in the Security Council that would "easily" support Orban, and another 10 votes out of the 15 council members that could be secured. One U.S. official stated that Orban is the "perfect candidate for conservatives supporting the MAGA movement." This is largely due to his actions against mass migration, liberal NGOs, as well as left-leaning courts and media, the article states. Moreover, as the publication notes, Orban has often clashed with the European Union while benefiting from subsidies, and his pro-China orientation has never undermined his image as a defender of Western civilization. It is expected that if Orban announces his candidacy for the UN position, U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance will support him again, although, according to a source familiar with the process, the announcement is expected to wait until after the U.S. midterm elections. U.S. officials first reached out to Orban to gauge his interest in the UN position. They found that he is positively inclined, albeit with reservations. The other candidates for the position of Secretary-General, according to a representative from the second country, are mostly "secretaries" — with experience in international bureaucracy or behind-the-scenes diplomacy. Orban, however, would be a "general." The State Department representative agreed, adding that Orban adheres to the right ideology, knows how to wield power in hostile conditions, and will not succumb to intimidation from the establishment. ## What Preceded: It is worth noting that recently, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez emphasized the need to reform the UN and strengthen accountability mechanisms to stop governments and forces that violate international rules, unleash aggressive wars, and multiply suffering in the world. Calls to abolish the veto power in the UN Security Council have been heard for a long time, especially in connection with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In particular, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has also called for the abolition of the veto power in the UN Security Council. A German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul criticized the UN Security Council for being unable to make decisions due to the veto of individual members.
