First, about the newcomers. For the first time, a participant from Canada will take the stage at Eurovision after the local TV holding CBC/Radio-Canada received membership status in the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Additionally, after a four-year hiatus, North Macedonia is also returning to the competition. ## Do not want or cannot participate in the competition Several countries will not participate in the 2027 contest, either having declined to participate for financial reasons or continuing a political boycott of the event. Thus, **Slovakia** has once again refused to return to Eurovision, citing financial and programming constraints of the public broadcaster. The same reason was given by **Czechia**, which also declined to sing. It seems that Czech and Slovak broadcasters have become quite impoverished — the country's participation in Eurovision costs about 100,000 to 500,000 euros. This does not seem like an unmanageable amount for a national broadcaster. Furthermore, **the Netherlands** and **Ireland** announced that they will not participate in the contest for the second consecutive year due to disagreement over the continued participation of Israel. **Spain** and **Slovenia** have not yet made a final decision — they also did not participate in the 2026 contest. The EBU has given both countries until December to confirm. **Russia** and **Belarus** are still not allowed to participate in Eurovision: Russian broadcasters were excluded from the European Broadcasting Union after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the membership of the Belarusian broadcaster BTRC in the EBU was terminated back in 2021. As for **Latvia**, this country has already confirmed its participation in Eurovision next year. It remains to choose a representative who will agree to sing on the Bulgarian stage.
