According to information on NATO's website, SACEUR is responsible for overseeing all military operations of the alliance at a strategic level and leads Allied Command Operations. SACEUR's responsibilities include planning military operations, determining the forces required for them, and making corresponding requests to member countries in accordance with the authority of the North Atlantic Council and the directives of NATO's Military Committee. In the event of aggression against any NATO member country, SACEUR is responsible for implementing all military measures within his capabilities and authority to preserve or restore the security of the alliance's territory. Grīnkevičs has been acting as SACEUR since July 2025.
