A giant structure measuring 1,082 meters will be built between the settlements of Żarnowa and Godowa, on the section of road between Babica and Jawornik. The height of the tallest supports reaches 80 meters, while the width of the structure will be 29 meters. As reported by the Polish General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA), the builders have completed the concreting of the load-bearing structure of the first part of the overpass, intended for traffic towards Barwinek. Now, the second parallel part needs to be built, which will allow vehicles to move towards Rzeszów. ## More than 20 Olympic Swimming Pools of Concrete The scale of construction is impressive. Only for the construction of the supports, 51,800 cubic meters of concrete were required — enough to fill more than 20 Olympic swimming pools. Additionally, 9,250 tons of steel were used in the construction of the supports. This is more than the weight of the steel framework of the famous Eiffel Tower. The overpass will consist of eight spans. The longest of them reaches 188 meters. Work is being carried out over a deep valley, so builders are using a special technology: concrete sections are gradually erected on both sides of the supports, connecting them at a great height. This allows for the avoidance of traditional scaffolding, which cannot be installed at the bottom of the valley. ## When Will the Giant Overpass Open? As of the end of October 2026, the construction of the entire 11.6-kilometer section of the S19 route between Babica and Jawornik is over 80% complete. At the same time, bridge work is more than 90% completed. The new road will become part of the international transport corridor Via Carpatia, which is intended to connect the northern and southern parts of Europe. The opening of the section is planned for 2027.
