Along with the Ministry of Economics, four institutions have moved to new premises - the Consumer Rights Protection Center, the Competition Council, the Latvian National Accreditation Bureau, and the Central Statistical Bureau. The ministry emphasizes that placing the institutions in one building will foster closer cooperation and provide a modern working environment for carrying out government functions. According to the State Real Estate Agency (VNĪ), the total area of the premises for the Ministry of Economics and its subordinate institutions is 7,369 square meters. To cover the costs of renovating the premises, equipment, and relocation without additional funding from the state budget, VNĪ plans to sell previously used buildings. The funds obtained from the sale of real estate are intended to repay the loan of approximately 17.3 million euros taken for the building on Talejas Street, and in the long term, from 2027 to 2044, the relocation of the Ministry of Economics to the administrative building on Talejas Street is expected to reduce state expenditures by 18.2 million euros. Previously, the ministry was located at Brivibas Street, 55. With the relocation of the Ministry of Economics and its subordinate institutions to the state office building on Talejas Street, the number of employees working there daily has reached several thousand. The move to the office building on Talejas Street was made possible by the decision of the State Revenue Service to optimize its premises by more than half, freeing up space for other institutions. Currently, the SRS occupies about one-third of the total area of the building, VNĪ reports. In addition to the SRS, the administrative complex also houses VNĪ, the administration of the Riga Border Guard, the Youth Center, prosecution structures, the central office of the State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Health Inspectorate. In 2027, the relocation of the consular department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Talejas Street is planned.
