Residents of Jurmala will have to pay more for services at municipal cemeteries starting next year. The city council approved a new price list this week, which provides for a significant increase in the cost of several services. According to the LETA agency, the current rates of the municipal institution "Jurmala Cemeteries" were approved in 2024. Since then, the municipality explains, the costs of goods, services, and labor have increased. As a result, the city authorities decided to revise the prices, with the cost of some services increasing by 60–80%. ### The measurement of the burial site will increase by 83% One of the most noticeable changes concerns the preparation of the burial site. Starting in January, the fee for measuring and marking it will increase from 8.23 to 15.08 euros, which is approximately an 83% increase. Cleaning the area designated for the funeral will cost 16.92 euros instead of the current 10.37 euros. The increase will be about 63%. The cost of additional work for arranging the burial site will also change. For re-measuring, dividing, combining, or marking the plot at the client's request, one will have to pay 16.82 euros. Measuring and marking an already registered burial site will cost 1.59 euros. ### How much will it cost to rent a chapel According to the new price list, renting a chapel for half an hour will cost 45.94 euros. A reduced fee is provided for certain categories of residents — 32.16 euros for half an hour. The discounted rate will apply to pensioners, people with disabilities of the first or second group, as well as low-income and underprivileged residents. In addition, related services will also become more expensive. Ringing the bell will cost 8.95 euros instead of the previous 6.57 euros, and document processing will cost 13.41 euros instead of 12.14 euros. ### The fee for the columbarium will also increase Changes will also affect the columbarium services intended for storing urns with ashes after cremation. Opening a niche will increase from 13.71 to 24.03 euros — approximately a 75% increase. The annual fee for using a niche will rise from 68.79 to 89.53 euros, which is nearly a 30% increase. At the same time, the increase in service costs will not be uniform: some rates will increase slightly, while others will nearly double.
