A 23-minute documentary dedicated to the life and work of Lars von Trier has been published on the video platform Vimeo. The film was made by the filmmaker's daughter, Agnes Trier. The film was created specifically for the art exhibition Descendant, which took place from June 6 to September 20, 2026, at the Danish museum Willumsens Museum. The exhibition was timed to the director's 70th birthday, for which he himself served as curator. In the film, von Trier discusses his creative journey, sources of inspiration, and the artists who have influenced his worldview. Among them are Edvard Munch, August Strindberg, and Vilhelm Hammershøi. An especially emotional part of the film is the director's discussion about his health condition. In 2022, von Trier was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, after which he almost stopped appearing in public. "I have a disease that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy," the filmmaker admits. The director also spoke about his constant anxiety and how it has become increasingly difficult for him to experience joy. Reflecting on his own creative legacy, he noted that some films remain particularly dear to him, although he now assesses the significance of his works differently. Despite health issues, von Trier continues to engage in creativity. It was previously reported that he is working on the script for a new film titled 'After.' In August 2026, information emerged that the script is nearing completion, but filming has not yet begun. The documentary is filmed in Danish and is available with English subtitles.
