In Jurmala, with the onset of the autumn-winter season, it is once again permitted to visit the seaside beach with dogs. This rule is in effect from November 1 to March 31, according to the LETA agency, citing information from the Jurmala municipality. Thus, for five months, dog owners can walk their pets along the shores of the Gulf of Riga within the city. At the same time, it is necessary to adhere to a mandatory condition: the dog must be on a leash throughout the stay on the beach. ### A Ban is in Effect During Summer During the warm season, the rules change. From April 1 to October 31, it is prohibited to be on the beaches of Jurmala with pets, to walk them, and to allow them to swim in the sea. As explained by the municipality, the restrictions are related to the large number of vacationers during the spring-summer season. The ban is intended to ensure the sanitary cleanliness of the beaches, compliance with hygiene requirements, and the quality of water in official bathing areas. Additionally, the restrictions aim to ensure the safety of beach visitors. ### Who Monitors Compliance with the Rules? The Jurmala municipality police are responsible for monitoring compliance with the requirements. The opportunity to walk pets along the seaside during the cold season is provided by the city's mandatory rules on pet ownership. Thus, dog owners can use the beaches of Jurmala for walks until the end of March. The seasonal ban will come into effect again on April 1.
