A simple way is to iron the item or place it on a hot radiator, but this is not always possible. There are several methods that can help speed up the drying of clothes without damaging the fabric. You can use the spin cycle in the washing machine, towels, or a hairdryer. Let’s look at how to speed up the drying of clothes and what not to do. 1. In the Washing Machine If your washing machine has a drying mode, simply place the wet items inside and select the appropriate program. If there is no built-in dryer, use the following method. Place a few dry towels along with the wet item. Then turn on the spin cycle, choosing the number of spins based on the type of fabric. After the cycle is complete, the towels will absorb excess moisture, and the item will be drier. You can repeat the process or use an iron for final drying. 2. Using a Hairdryer If you need to dry a sweater or pullover made of wool, use a hairdryer. Hang the item on a chair and direct warm air at it from a distance of 40 cm. A hairdryer can only be used to dry small clothing items, such as underwear or socks. It is ineffective for larger items. 3. In a Towel This method is suitable for thick and heavy items, such as sweaters. Place a towel on a flat surface, lay the clothing item on top, then roll the towel with the “filling” into a roll, press it down with something heavy, and leave it for a few minutes. The textile will absorb the excess water. Then replace the wet towel with a dry one and repeat the process 1-2 times. 4. Near a Fan If you have a heat fan, hang the clothes nearby and direct a stream of warm air at them. Use a low power setting. The main rule is not to place items directly on the fan, as this can be a fire hazard. 5. With an Iron Heat the iron and press the wet item from the front and then from the back. Hang the item on a chair for 10–15 minutes, then press it again. Don’t forget to turn off the steam function and check the care label, as some materials cannot be ironed. 6. On an Electric Dryer If you often need to quickly dry laundry, you can purchase an electric clothes dryer. It looks like a regular foldable one but requires a power connection. 7. On a Radiator or Towel Warmer Small clothing items, such as socks or mittens, dry quickly if hung on a radiator or towel warmer in the bathroom. 8. In the Microwave You can also dry clothes in the microwave. Place small items on a plate and turn the microwave on for 30 seconds. Repeat the process several times. It is important not to dry the fabric completely, as it may get damaged. What Is Better Not to Do Some suggest drying small items in the microwave, near the oven, with a hair straightener, or a heater — this is dangerous. The method of drying near the oven is unsafe, as the oven should be open. A hair straightener can damage the fabric, and placing overly wet items on electric heating devices requires caution to avoid electric shock.
