According to the Riga City Council, the decision to close the traffic was made due to the dangerous situation that arose after a fire in a production building at 4 Tvaika Street. The Department of Urban Development of the Riga City Council ordered the closure of traffic in this area until the safety threat is eliminated. Preliminary estimates suggest that the restrictions will last for at least a week. However, the exact date for reopening the street is still unknown. ## Why can't traffic be restored immediately? The main issue is related to the condition of the building affected by the fire. Before allowing traffic to resume, a structural engineer must conduct a technical inspection and assess the stability of the outer wall structures. Based on the inspection results, specialists will determine what measures need to be taken to eliminate the danger. Only after that will a decision be made regarding the resumption of traffic. ## Changes to trolleybus and bus routes The closure of Tvaika Street has also affected public transport. As reported by the Rīgas satiksme company, the movement of two routes has been temporarily changed: - Trolleybus No. 3 towards Kundziņsala only runs to the final stop "Sarkandaugava". - Bus No. 49 towards Dauderstāle also only goes to the final stop "Sarkandaugava". The company will provide additional information on the restoration of the usual routes. ## Drivers warned about traffic jams The Riga City Council urges motorists to plan their trips in advance and, if possible, choose alternative routes. Due to the closure of Tvaika Street, the traffic load on neighboring streets may significantly increase. Authorities warn of possible congestion and recommend accounting for additional travel time. ## More than two thousand square meters burned Recall that on the morning of Monday, November 2, a large fire occurred in Sarkandaugava. A production building at 4 Tvaika Street caught fire. The area of the fire was 2,250 square meters. The consequences of the fire were so serious that concerns arose regarding the stability of the building's structures. Until specialists confirm their safety, traffic near the affected site will remain closed.
