As is known, the 15th Saeima today at its first meeting elected Edward Smiltens (United List) as its chairman, who previously led the last Saeima for one year. Returning to the speaker's chair, Smiltens is determined to change many things. This evening, in an interview with Latvian TV, he expressed support for reducing certain committees - in particular, the Committee on Long-Term Development. It cannot be ruled out that the Committee on National Economy, which is very overloaded, will be divided into several committees... Smiltens also wants the analytical service to provide deputies with various information more quickly. Smiltens promised to continue defending freedom of speech in the Saeima and from its podium.
