Icy conditions complicate traffic near Riga: hazardous road sections identified

On Wednesday morning, icy conditions formed in the vicinity of Riga, making traffic difficult on certain sections of the main and regional state roads. This was reported by the LETA agency, citing the Latvijas valsts ceļi (Latvian State Roads, LVC). ### Which roads are experiencing traffic difficulties? According to the road service, challenging driving conditions are observed on two main state roads: - Vidzeme Highway (A2) — on the section from Vangaži to Sigulda. - Valmiera Highway (A3) — on the section from Murjani to Rāgana. In addition, icy conditions are complicating traffic on regional roads in the vicinity of Riga. ### Winter equipment deployed on the roads To improve driving conditions, road services are treating slippery sections with anti-icing materials. Three units of winter road maintenance equipment have been engaged in the work. Drivers are advised to take into account the condition of the road surface, choose a speed appropriate to the weather conditions, and maintain an increased distance from other vehicles. Particular caution should be exercised on bridges, overpasses, and shaded sections of roads, where slippery surfaces may persist longer.
