U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that he does not intend to leave President Donald Trump's administration, despite reports in the American media about a possible resignation. As reported by LETA citing AFP, in an interview with The New York Times, Rubio emphasized that he has always planned to remain on Trump's team until the end of his presidential term. > "It has always been my plan" to work for the president until the end of his term, the Secretary of State said. Rubio, who also serves as the president's national security advisor, issued a denial following publications about possible personnel changes in the White House amid the Republicans' defeat in the midterm elections. ### Where did the resignation rumors come from? On Thursday, Bloomberg News reported that Rubio is allegedly considering leaving Trump's administration. According to the agency, the Secretary of State discussed his possible resignation with White House officials, but he was asked to remain in his position. Rubio himself stated that such reports came as a surprise to him. > "Honestly, I don’t know where these rumors are coming from," he told The New York Times. Assistant Secretary of State for Global Public Affairs Dylan Johnson also categorically rejected Bloomberg's information, calling the publication "completely fabricated." ### Is Rubio preparing for the 2028 presidential election? Amid discussions of a possible resignation, American media once again turned their attention to the Secretary of State's political future. Rubio is viewed by political analysts as a potential candidate for the Republican Party nomination in the 2028 presidential election. Just a few days before the midterm elections, he, which is unusual for him, accompanied Trump at a campaign event. Moreover, Rubio briefly took the stage and spoke to the gathered crowd. This attracted additional attention to his possible political plans. However, in an interview with The New York Times, the Secretary of State declined to discuss the 2028 presidential campaign, stating that he no longer intends to speak on the subject. ### The State Department rejected reports of presidential ambitions The news portal The Independent previously reported that Rubio allegedly plans to run for the Republican Party nomination for president in 2028. Dylan Johnson called this information "completely unfounded fake news." At the same time, Rubio had previously stated that he is ready to support current U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance if he decides to run for the presidency. Vance is also considered one of the potential candidates from the Republicans in the next presidential election. Thus, Rubio publicly confirmed his intention to continue working in Trump's administration, but the question of his future political career remains open.
